Scheduling Question Research

4 (a). Compare how and why two programmes were scheduled on different channels.

State the day, time and channel of each programme.

  • Who commissioned the programmes?
The BBC originally commissioned for both of the programmes. This is because Miranda is on BBC2 and Bad Education is BBC3.
  • Who produced them?
For Miranda there are two different producers for series 1 it is Nerys Evans and then for series 2 and 3 it is Emma Strain. Bad education was produced by Pippa Brown.
  • What audience are they aimed at and why?
Bad Education is aimed at the age range, teenagers to 25. This is because Bad Education is a sense of humour programme and contains sexual jokes which are mainly aimed towards teenagers because of the setting it is in.  Miranda has a target audience of the same as Bad Education this is because Miranda tells a lot of jokes but they are mainly sexual jokes and also makes herself look a fool around men. Which is what teenagers and young women do?
  • Why are they on at that time and on that channel? Link to ‘type’ of comedy and target audience.
Bad Education is on at 22:00 on a Friday; this is because there target audience is still up at that time and this is a more sense of humour programme and is unsuitable for people under the age of the target audience. Miranda is on at 20:30 on a Monday this is because her target audience is mainly for young adults which are normally getting home from work around that time. This is on at an earlier time because bad education is a more sexual type of comedy and Miranda doesn’t use trangressive humour.
  • Are they after the watershed? Why?
Bad education is after the watershed, this is because it is a different type of comedy compared to Miranda which is before the watershed. Bad education is also based on stereotypes which young people wouldn’t understand and also uses trangressive humour which doesn’t include people aged under the target audience. Miranda is on before the watershed because Miranda doesn’t use as much trangressive humour, she is mainly based wife safe language and not so rude.
  • Audience demographic
Bad education is mainly for men and women but can relate back to teachers; this is because bad education setting is in a school and has students involved. Bad education is a flirty programme because everyone flirts with each other. Miranda is mainly for women because it is mainly women main characters and is about women not men. This Is proven in Miranda by when Miranda and Stevie try to find men that have dropped something in the shop (episode 6)
