Hot fuzz work

Hot Fuzz

Question 1:

Explanation1: The characters in this extract fit the genre action adventure because they are mischievous and are in disguise at first. They look like ordinary people and don’t look bad but then they turn bad, have weapons and cause mayhem. There is a hero which has enemies. Action adventure films usually include a hero which also has enemies, which then causes a war between people and it isn’t normally one on one there is usually one person against about 5.

Explanation2: The event in this extract also fits the genre because they all watch the hero come close and stare at him because they think he’s a villain. Then a war begins between him and enemies. Weapons are used and shooting begins. This fits into an action adventure film because people always suspect the hero as the villain and think that he’s there to cause trouble but in the end doesn’t.

Question 2:

Soundtrack-

There is fast music making the film feel tense and feel like something major is going to happen. This can lead to a bomb explosion or shooting etc. There is clicking of the horse walking towards the town. There is dark music, every little bit of noise is heard which then makes the audience think about what’s next. There is mysterious music, making it look like angel rules the town (A king). There is glass smashing, causing tension. Bell ringing from kids going in the shop, one by one.

Editing-

The gun fire shot makes it looks explosive. The smoke stays longer around the gun and also the cloud gets bigger. The kids are running faster than what they actually would in person, this is called a speed up. The glass shattering sounds louder as its breaking. The woman on the bike does flips over the police car and lands on her back.

Mise en scene-

Mise en scene is used at the start of the clip when angel is on a horse walking back into the village. This is to make it look as if angel has power and that he rules the town, this could also be to show that he is a hero because he’s got rid of the enemies. This also makes him stands out to the audience because the camera is focused on him and he is making an entrance. The weapon which is used the most is guns; these are used for protection of themselves and others. This creates action by gun shooting being done and people shooting at each other whilst doing different actions.

Camera work-

Close up shot on angel when he is sat at the traffic lights and of every person which remembers angel. There’s a long distant shot of when angel is walking into the town and up the hill. There’s a back angle view of angel walking up of the hill and towards the police station. There is a looking up shot which is used on the woman shooting out the window at angel.

Question 3:

Throughout the extract, characters are betrayed stereotypically because old people are usually weak and usually be slow but also may be in mobility scooters and maybe have a walking stick but in this extract old people are lively and cause trouble. This is shown by the old man in the hat and glasses which tries shooting the hero and has fast reactions. Everything that old people shouldn’t be able to do, end up being the complete opposite.

Also throughout this extract gender is betrayed because there are more men than women. This is showing that men are stronger than women and that woman are weaker than men. This is being stereotypically because it is usually women fighting and causing conflict in the streets, not men.

Race and nationality is not used in this extract because they are all white people and looks like as if it is a white town, which may be an England town.

It looks as if the hero has a reputation by the way that people stop and stares at him, thinking that he may have caused trouble before so they think that he is back again to cause more trouble. Everyone thinks that he is a villain but he isn’t he’s a hero.  People cause tension between one another because of the way that they stop and stare and don’t move one bit.

It is a stereotypical village because in ordinary towns not everyone stops and stares at one person, there are only few people in that village but there is normally lots of people. Also if there is a conflict between two people the rest normally just gather and watch or maybe run and hide depending what weapons are used but in this extract everyone joins in and goes against the hero, sticking up for each other.

Kids are stereotypical because children are supposed to be in school and not walking around the town with their hoods up and helping heroes. This is shown when a group of children are walking around all together, looking like a gang and are helping angel to complete his mission. Also the children help angel to cover up getting caught by spray painting the camera and also helping him by running into a shop and setting off the bell every time that people enter the shop so then it helps angel get an enemy to stop shooting.

The hurtlocker

The Hurt Locker.

Explain two ways the characters/ or events fit the action adventure genre.

Q1.  The characters in this extract fit the genre action adventure because there are military people, dressed in combat clothing. With helmets which is used for protection which is nee in action films. They also have weapons which represents the action part (war).

The event fits into the genre because it is in a town centre, which a man has a bomb attached to him which could blow up, causing an explosion and a massive riot between people.

Explain how each of the following creates effect.

Q2.  Soundtrack- Grip onto gun which will cause tension for the audience, thinking that he is going to shoot. Shouting makes people become interested because you don’t know what is going to happen between them. Explosion which creates fear because the sound surrounds them and makes them feel like they are in the explosion.

Editing- It is edited in different sections. There is a high quality effect when the bomb goes off causing the smoke to look bigger than what it is.

Mise-en-scene – There is a lot of shouting at the start and crying for help, making it more dramatic than what it needs to be which then creates a tense atmosphere ‘Help me I’m a family man’. They constantly have guns in their hands which will make people alert of what may about to happen, this could be shooting or they may even use it for protection. The setting looks like it is in an empty town, this could be because of the atmosphere which is going on around peoples home, and putting people at risk which will make the audience feel frightened because of what may happen. The lighting is normal which is making it look realistic which makes people more interested than what they would be in a fake.

Camera work- A medium long shot is used when the man is undoing his shirt to show the bomb, whilst still being able to see the men. There is a close up shot of the soldier trying to help the man which is attached to bomb (face shot). There is a Birdseye view shot at the start showing the setting of where it is and being able to see the setting, the soldier and also the man crying for help.

Discuss the ways in which people are represented in the extract.

Q3. People are represented in the extract because people shout in real life, causing conflict between one and other. This then causes a war between people and putting people’s life’s at risk.  Also military people have weapons and have body armour to keep their selves protected and to keep their team protected from enemies. The setting is in a street where people are looking out of their windows. People in reality look out of their windows when there is shouting/banging or shooting. People are represented in all types of different ways during this extract. Race and nationality are represented because it isn’t just an all-white cast, there is mixed race included in the cast. The cast isn’t all English, there are cast with accent and are from different countries.

edge of tomorrow: the notes

Question 1

This clip fits the action adventure genre because It is all military based which goes all around the world and their costumes are all machine based. The character is the hero because he defeats the enemy. In this genre you would expect a strong male for the main character, which nic is. He is a one man army which makes everything look easy, this is shown in the clip when nic is speaking to Rita and shoots 2 enemies without looking.

The setting on the beach is a combat zone because there are explosions all over, with machines going all over the beach causing conflicts between the characters and the enemies. Combat zones are popular in action adventure films because of the outcomes.

Question 2

Soundtrack: Robotic/hydraulic sound, you can hear the machines scrape across the floor and nic punching the machine, which causes tension because it will make people get interested and also creates a futuristic effect. There is fast music in the background which makes it look like there is a big explosion going to happen. There are masculine noises which he makes (heavy breathing, punching etc.) It is cinematic, heavy footprints when running, getting loud at certain point which causes tension.

Editing: It is edited in different sections. It is edited when they are tackling the enemies on the beach, causing high quality in explosions. This was by making it brighter and louder than what it was when filmed. It was also used when gun shots were fired and hit the enemies; this made it look as if it was high quality shooting and to also make it looks as if he has power. They also use editing with the explosions in the background. There is a jump edit which when they are jumping from one side to another but is slowed right down. They have effect of making the view of caravans dull; this creates the emotion of fear and also can make the audience feel frightened.

Mise-en-scene: This is used at the start of the scene when nic is in a highly technologized costume, making him look as if he has the power and makes it look as if he is protected from the evil. Weapons are highly used to represent the action in the film. The lighting is used to create realism to the audience and to make it real instead of fake. This give the audience a good view and keeps them interested. It gives off a freeze frame when he has battled the machines; this gives the audience a good look of what his facial expressions are. It zooms right in on her face when they are in the room, speaking about what happened next, which shows the fear. When he jumps to help save the woman, He jumps higher that what he probably did giving us the effect of that he may have powers.

Camerawork: The editors use a tracking shot which means that the camera is following the character, this is used in the film when they are running towards the vehicles. They do a close-up when they are sat on the beach when they are speaking about who is going where. They also use a high angle shot when nic is trying to battle the cranes. There is an over the shoulder shot which makes us look like we are following her. The second part slows right down with a bird’s eye shot. There are also close up shots of when they are on the beach and have just killed a enemy and they are speaking about what is going to happen next.

Action Adventure Representation Task

Costume:

Her costume looks like a robot. This is because the materials that the costume is made out of will protect her from the enemies. This costume has wires attached to it which can be dangerous and can cause complications. It has padding in the middle which can protect the middle part of their body. It also has weapons attached to it which comes in handy if she is about to get attacked.

Hair:

She has her hair in piggy plaits which can show her age range. Which I would say is 20-25. This is because the target audience is for middle aged people, It also makes her look mature and doesn’t get in her way whilst running or walking.

Make-up:

Her make-up is done to make it look like she has mud and maybe bruises on her face. This represents the genre because there is a lot of fighting and running away. Depending what the setting is depends on the makeup. This setting looks like it is on a field which could explain the mud on her face; she could have had a fall.

Props:

She has weapons which are attached to her costume. These weapons look like guns and grenades. This helps to protect yourself and also others. Grenades are usually used for big animals which don’t seem too die unless with a special weapon. The gun could be to protect her if she can’t get a grenade out quick enough, which leads her to survival.

Setting:

The setting looks like it is on a field which makes it more adventurous because of the genre. This setting could also be related to the animals which are chasing her. The setting shows dark and fearful emotions.
